Bookshops & Bonedust

After seeing Varine’s symbol, the group is somber on their return to town. Viv promises to speak to Iridia about it the next day. When they get to the bookstore, Fern finds a note that her book shipment will be delivered the next day. Viv promises to help her unpack, and she and Maylee walk to the bakery.

Viv is uncomfortable but determined to tell Maylee that their relationship is important to her. Maylee is happy to hear it but reminds Viv that they are in different places in their lives. She suggests that they enjoy their relationship for as long as it lasts.

The next morning, Viv goes to the bookstore, where Fern is already outside waiting for her shipment. When it arrives, Fern opens a crate and they enjoy the sight and smell of new books.

Viv helps Fern unpack her shipment. Gallina comes into the store asking for Viv’s help—she has accepted a bounty to get rid of a spineback nest for a local farmer. At first, Viv says no. She is afraid that Varine will show up, or Rackam will come back for her, while they are gone.
